Only 6% of Columbia undergraduates pursue a career in their majors, though the statistics are higher for the natural sciences. The joint CC/GS Committee on Instruction underscores that the goal of the majors is vocational training but the opportunity to explore an area in depth. As such, we view the intellectual experience that you have in E3B as the foundation for any career, from the sciences to the arts.
Broadly, many of our students attend graduate study in ecology and evolution, biology, conservation, forensics and paleoanthropology. Others attend graduate school in the health field (medicine, public health, physical therapy) and veterinary schools. Some pursue related careers in journalism and teaching but we also alumni who work in NGOs, the arts, law, and business
These charts reflect the career paths of our alumni.
