Title: Rethinking the Land Carbon Sink: Observational Insights into Soils, Microbes and Forest Recovery
About: César Terrer is a climate ecologist and Associate Professor at MIT, where his group quantifies how much carbon land ecosystems store and what limits them. Combining field measurements, satellites and machine learning, his current work targets the largest uncertainties in tropical carbon budgets—decadal soil carbon change, effects of drought and disturbance in tropical forests, and the role of animals in forest regrowth—and translates them into evidence-based strategies for nature-based climate solutions. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and an NSF CAREER awardee.
