Title: Phenology, Interaction Timing and Forecasting Novel Community Dynamics
Abstract: I will present two new theoretical frameworks for modeling the impacts of phenological changes and interaction timing on ecosystem resilience. I will show that the system-level effect of perturbing interaction timing is independent of the outcomes associated with perturbing species abundances, meaning that the ecosystems that are considered stable in the traditional sense may still be highly vulnerable to even small changes in phenology. Finally, I will argue that modeling intra-season dynamics is crucial for making accurate predictions of community trajectories under future environmental change scenarios, especially those with conditions that have never been experienced before.
