Inclusive Teaching in Practice (for Faculty)
A 60-minute workshop for Columbia Faculty.
Join us for an interactive workshop where we will learn and practice easy-to-implement strategies for fostering a more inclusive classroom—one in which every student feels seen, heard, and valued. Together, we’ll explore research-based inclusive teaching strategies and discuss concrete ways to promote students’ sense of belonging. We will also discuss approaches to cultivating a growth mindset—the belief that your skills and intelligence are malleable and can be improved with hard work and practice —which has been shown to be a vital aspect of learning (including recently in Yeager, et al. Nature (2019) and Canning, et al. Sci Adv. (2019)). Having a growth mindset, helping students feel like they belong, and incorporating inclusive teaching strategies have been shown to improve student performance and reduce performance gaps, and in this workshop we’ll focus on how to put these principles into practice.
